Military Ministries International in Africa
MMI work began in Africa. The first AMCF conference organised by MMI was held in Benin in 1982 but AMCF African history goes back fifty years to the establishment of the Military Christian Fellowship in Ghana by members of the British Officers Christian Union (now Armed Forces Christian Union).
Regional conferences are held regularly and in 2008 a Pan-African event celebrating “50 Years of AMCF in Africa” was held in Nairobi, Kenya. A presentation report is available – Pan-Africa 2008
Chaplaincy conferences and seminars have been held in Southern Africa (Zimbabwe 1993 and South Africa 1997) and Francophone Africa (Burkina Faso 2008) to assist and encourage chaplains in developing their chaplaincy skills.
Table Mountain Top Interaction is a challenging event for young leaders form across Southern Africa. It is designed to stretch the participants physically, emotionally and spiritually. It is led and organised by the regional AMCF Vice president, Captain Peter Louwrens. For details of the next TMTI contact Captain Louwrens.
Now MMI is keen to see the work in Africa develop to become an indigenous ministry working in partnership with MMI and the other AMCF support organisations. To this end we are working in close conjunction with the AMCF Vice Presidents to fulfil the resolutions of the 2008 AMCF Pan-African Conference
